THE CHALLENGE

Virus discovery efforts have begun to create an essential catalog of viral threats. However, without a strategy to evaluate risk and rank and identify the most important for surveillance we are faced with a lot of data and little direction on where to focus efforts for preventing future pandemics.

THE SOLUTION

SpillOver, a comprehensive, open-source tool allows for the ranking of newly discovered animal viruses for the first-time. Using 31 key factors such as host(s), ecology and behavioral drivers, SpillOver functions like a ‘credit report’ for ranking the risk of spillover from animals to humans.

Built with the best science currently available, SpillOver is intended to serve policy makers, public health experts and scientists (who can add their own data) in identifying pathogens of greatest concern both locally and globally.
